Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal soft rays: 5. This species is distinguished from all its congeners by the following characters: with a large deep black round caudal spot on posterior most (20-23 / 21-24) lateral line scales and a
distinct golden or yellow ring encircling it; snout which is pointed and unusually elongated (32.5-35.1 % HL) snout; dorsal fin in front of the ventral fin, the former with a weak and non-osseous last simple ray; lateral line scales 23-24; 2½ scales between lateral line and ventral fin; predorsal scales 7-8 (Ref. 132414).
