Etymology: Garcialebias: Named for Dr Graciela García and the Greek, 'lebias'; arachan: The name arachan originally refers to inhabitants from Porto Alegre and Laguna de los Patos system, Brazil. Presently, arachan refers to people from Departamento de Cerro Largo in Uruguay where several populations of this species occur.
