It is a small whitefish species with average pigmentation on its fins and body, characterized by an elongated, slender body (body depth: 22.7-26.1% SL, average 24.3), a short mouth (maxilla length: 17-21.7% HL, average 19.6), and a pronounced rostral plate. The species has very large eyes (eye diameter: 21.5-24.7% HL, average 23.2) with a subtle triangular or occasionally roundish eye socket. Its gill rakers are few and very short (longest gill raker: 7.6-10.6% HL, average 8.8), with a total count of 21-26.
