Feed mainly on small crustaceans, particularly copepods (Ref. 4525). Oviparous, with planktonic larvae (Ref. 35626) and eggs (Ref. 6686). Paedomorphic (Ref. 35626). | |||
| Diagnosis: | Dorsally directed tubular eyes; elongate gut; early forming pectoral and pelvic with pedunculate bases; pigment on vomer and gill arches; larvoid juveniles and adults enclosed in gelatinous sheath; stomach forms early on left side; dorsal longitudinal septum open. Pigmentation: Flexion: on gill arches and filaments, mostly at angle; series between gut and trunk from pectoral fin base to terminal section of gut; on pelvic fin base. Postflexion: on upper and lower jaws; lateral series on isthmus; lateral series extending posterior from angle of lower jaw; below and lateral to brain; elongate patch on vomer; on gill arches; series of blotches extending ventrad from above gut; on both surfaces of pelvic fin bases; on dorsal fin base; median patch at base of caudal fin.
