Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Mediterranean Sea and adjacent northeast Atlantic.
Adult biology: Uncommon species (Ref. 34024). Found on the deeper parts of the continental shelf (Ref. 6555). Oviparous, with oval pelagic eggs floating in a gelatinous mass (Ref. 205).
Diagnosis: The postanal ventral row of melanophores starts from the anus to the end of the tail. The dorsal postanal row extends in the urostyle region. At 17mm: D 128; A 110. . See also LARVAE table.
