Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: southwest of Ireland, western Mediterranean and off Western Sahara. Northwest Atlantic: Canada (Ref. 5951).
Adult biology: Spawns during winter in the Mediterranean.
Diagnosis: Terminal part of intestinal tract hangs freely outside the body. 2 pigment lines along dorsal and ventral profile of notochord. Origin of dorsal finfold corresponds to 18th segment. Fin fold behind dorsal turns gradually into adipose fin. . See also LARVAE table.
