Distribution: Eastern Atlantic: Norway (Trondheim fjord) to Spain and the Canary Islands. Reported from the Mediterranean Sea (Ref. 50345).
Adult biology: Inhabits gravel and sand; young may occur in shore pools. Feeds on crustaceans (copepods and amphipods) (Ref. 4696).
Diagnosis: There is always a fairly large chromatophore behind and above the anus, usually absent in P. norvegicus. . See also LARVAE table.
Climate Zone: temperate; 65°N - 27°N
