Max. size:  50 cm TL (male/unsexed); 58.4 cm TL (female); max. reported age: 4 years
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 109 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: Gulf of California and scattered localities of Mexico.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in bays, lagoons and estuaries; also on sandy bottoms near reefs (Ref. 9265). Feeds on crustaceans and small fishes (Ref. 37955), and worms (Ref. 12951). Venomous spine on tail.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 08 February 2019 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  venomous
