Distribution: | Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: widespread in tropical and subtropical areas. Not occurring in the eastern Pacific and southeast Atlantic. | |||
Diagnosis: | Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 2-3; Anal soft rays: 16-18; Vertebrae: 30-30. Body dark brown in color (Ref. 6655). | |||
Biology: | Oceanic and mesopelagic. Found on the continental shelf and underwater sea rises (Ref. 10817). Rather rare. | |||
