Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  7 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Mississippi River basin in central Illinois, to northwestern Alabama, Louisiana and eastern Oklahoma, USA; Gulf drainages from Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana to Navidad River in Texas, USA.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in quiet, usually turbid, mud-bottomed or sand-bottomed pools of headwaters, creeks and small rivers (Ref. 86798). Oviparous (Ref. 205).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 01 March 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
