Family:  Platytroctidae (Tubeshoulders)
Max. size:  24 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 100 - 1500 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Gulf of Guinea and Angola. Elsewhere, western Atlantic and tropical eastern Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 19-21; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 15-17
Biology:  Bathypelagic to benthopelagic, exceptionally as shallow as 100-120 m (Ref. 4461). Mesopelagic (Ref. 58302).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 15 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
