Family:  Gobiidae (Gobies), subfamily: Gobiinae
Max. size:  4.56 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 24 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Gulf of Honduras.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 7-7; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 11-11. Characterized by having: terminal mouth position; thin white lateral stripe from eye to caudal peduncle and thin white bar on snout; naked and elongate body, laterally compressed; absence of rostral frenum; rounded tongue; dorsal fin without elongated anterior spines; caudal fin rounded; complete ventral fin cup (Ref. 50538).
Biology:  The only shallow-water sponge-dwelling Elacatinus found in the Gulf of Honduras (Ref. 50538).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 24 March 2011 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
