Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
Max. size:  40 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range - 60 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea from Oman to western coasts of India (Ref. 3490); South China Sea and off Java, Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 25-27; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 7-7
Biology:  Found on coastal waters over muddy bottoms. Forms small schools. Also caught with bottom trawls and hand lines. Marketed fresh and dried salted; swim bladder dried (Ref. 9772).
